What is Upward?
Upward is a family celebration and activity gifting web app for parents and guardians. Families use Upward to create a child's celebration page, share invitation details, collect RSVPs, manage guest notes such as allergies and waivers, and coordinate optional activity gifts. Family and friends can RSVP without an account and, when they choose, contribute toward eligible child activities such as camps, classes, sports, arts, museums, swimming, music, and indoor play. Parents remain in control of the celebration and activity choices; Upward helps organize the page, gift flow, and safety/payment logistics. Is Upward free for families?
Yes. Creating a celebration page, sharing invitations, and collecting RSVPs is free. Activity gifts are always optional.
Do guests have to send an activity gift?
No. Guests can RSVP and leave a note without sending anything. The activity gift is simply a private, convenient option for people who want to give something useful.
What can an activity gift be used for?
Real children's activities — swimming, art, sports, camps, lessons, music, museums, indoor play, and similar programs. It is not for groceries, gas, rent, or general retail.
How do parents use the funds?
Parents pick any activity off-platform, pay the provider directly, and upload a quick photo of their booking confirmation or lesson receipt. The funds are instantly routed securely to their bank account. You have absolute freedom to spend with any local provider of your choice.
Do activity gifts expire, and can they be refunded?
Upward does not set an expiry date, so parents can use a gift whenever the right activity comes up. Unused gifts may be reviewed for a refund case by case; once applied, a gift is generally no longer refundable.
Can someone send a monthly or recurring gift?
Yes. Monthly activity gifts require a free giver account so the sender can manage or cancel securely — handy for grandparents and recurring support.
How does Upward use Google sign-in?
Upward uses Google sign-in to help parents, guardians, and gift contributors create and access their accounts securely. If you choose to sign in with Google, Upward receives basic account information such as your name, email address, profile photo, and Google account ID. We use that information to authenticate your account, manage your Upward profile, and provide access to celebration pages, RSVPs, and activity gift features. Upward does not use Google sign-in to access Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, contacts, or other Google services. You can read more in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
